Nurturing Minds, Building Character: Legacy of Education and Values
Kamarpukur Ramakrishna Mission Multipurpose School under the aegis of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Kamarpukur with Headquarters at Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal, is a Bengali medium high school recognized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. Approximately 957 students from classes V to XII, study here. This school is meant exclusively for boys out of 957 students 114 students stay in our hostel.
This school is situated in Kamarpukur village in the district of Hooghly, West Bengal which is 92 Kilometers away from Kolkata. The students of the Kamarpukur institution are endowed with brilliant results and luminous intelligence. But this school should not be conceived as a mere academic institution, rather as a movement for imparting character-building education to inculcate the fundamental values of truth, purity and unselfishness. This will inspire the students to actualize one of Swami Vivekananda’s most favourite visions of a glorious India of the future.
It is worth mentioning that this school is catering the need of the very poor as well as rural students of this area since 1962. Many of the students cannot even pay their annual fees which is very nominal. On the contrary this school arranges scholarships for them from outside sources so that the students can continue their study. As a result, this school brought a huge number of students of low-income families, backward sections and minority communities under the fold of education for last five decades. We are committed to make the education more effective as well attractive to the students to create wholesome human beings with head, heart and hand harmoniously developed.
The most delightful achievement in the recent years was, obtaining the 1st position in the Madhyamik Pariksha 2014 in all over West Bengal by one of our students, Sriman Arnab Mullick. While another student, Sriman Amartya Pal, stood 8th (2014), Sriman Antarup Mondal, stood 10th (2016), Sriman Nabyendu Ghatak, stood 6th (2017), Sriman Rajdeep Sasmal, stood 8th & Sriman Ankan Nandi, stood 10th (2023), Sriman Topojyoti Mondal, stood 4th (2024) in the said exam.
Our Vision: Education, Values, and Beyond
Swami Vivekananda used to say that education is the panacea of all social evils. But by education he did not mean merely book learning. He said, “we must have life-building, man-making, character-making assimilation of ideas” and added “What we want is that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s feet.” This is the ideal of education which we try to put into effect at Kamarpukur.
The School, therefore, endeavours to educate the students in its charge according to the best traditions of the country, while instructing them in all directions – physically, mentally, intellectually and spiritually. As it prepares the students for public examination, it also tries to attend to their all-round growth and development so that they may become strong and healthy citizens of the country rooted in sound moral principles, learn to respect the higher values of life and become conscious of their obligation to the society and its people.
The main source of inspiration is the teaching of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Maa and Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda’s ideas about education are sought to be man-making. This is the ideal, that efforts are made to put into effect at Kamarpukur.
The winds of God’s grace are always blowing, it is for us to raise our sails.
– Sri Ramakrishna
The grace of God is the thing that is needful. One should pray for the grace of God.
– Holy Mother Sarada Devi
Our duty is to encourage everyone in his struggle to live up to his own highest idea and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the Truth.
– Swami Vivekananda
